As you well know, life is not always easy. Occasionally life throw us a curve ball and we are left feeling small and broken.  These challenges can often stop us from being brave enough to make some of the big decisions in life. As a result, we end up not achieving all that we are capable of.

It is generally fear that stops us from making those big decisions. Fear of failure or even fear of what someone will think. Unfortunately overcoming this fear is more difficult that it should be. Fears are normally deep seated and based either on personal past experiences or on what someone has told us.  The truth is your mindset is usually what really makes the difference. Learning how to manage your thought patterns is what is going to keep you on the move when things fail to go as planned.

Start your Day Off with Enthusiasm

It’s not always easy to start the day with a spring in your step. People often think that ‘they are not a morning person’. That of course is just another ‘thing in your head’. Before you accept labels for yourself, make sure the labels are working for you.

Your day’s effectiveness is often determined in the first few morning hours. If you start checking the Facebook newsfeed and email when you get out of bed, you will start to drift down to the unknown. Front load your morning with an activity that will give you a positive mental focus. A brief brainstorming session or workout will help in keeping you right on track.

Learn Something new and Useful Everyday

Are you filling your mind with the awesome stuff or the reading tabloids?

It is hard to fathom just how much impact you can have on your mind by feeding yourself high quality, useful information. The wonderful thing is you don’t even have to buy your useful input. YouTube and the web in general is full of useful information to ensure you are learning something new and useful every day. Be proactive and disciplined about the things that you allow to yourself to absorb. We cannot make changes to our DNA, but we can opt to be more vigilant about what sort of information we choose to consume intellectually.

Practice Gratitude

It is mind blowing how a simple ‘Thank You’ can change your life and your thinking if you do it regularly. Recall what you are grateful for every single day. When you first wake up in the morning and again when you go to bed at night.

Focus on all the positive things that life has to offer as opposed to its negatives. It is not always easy particularly when life is roughing you up a bit but keep looking for the positives and know that this simple act will ensure that any rocky moments will ultimately become moments you will be grateful for. Think about how fortunate you are and keep a journal to write down all the awesome things that happen in your life. You list does not have to consist of momentous things, it can be a simple as getting a quick call from someone you love or noticing that the garden is looking particularly beautiful at the moment.
