4 Steps To Reach Your Full Potential
Definition of reaching one’s full potential: to become the best one can
This article will help you become the best you can be with 4 steps to reach your full potential.
While we all have dreams and aspirations, few of us are fully aware of our own potential and more importantly, how to reach your full potential. It can be as hard to see our good and admirable traits as it is to see our faults. However, believing in your own potential is a crucial part of developing your self-confidence, and reaching your full potential.
Carl Rogers (1959) believed that humans have one basic motive, that is the tendency to self-actualize – i.e., to fulfill one’s potential and achieve the highest level of ‘human-beingness’ we can.
In order to achieve all that you are capable of, you have to believe in the potential you have. Understanding you have room to grow can help you to try new things, challenge yourself, and take risks that could all lead to success. So lets have a look at the 4 steps to reach your full potential.
Spend Time in Self-Reflection
The first thing you have to do to reach your full potential is to determine what you believe about yourself. In order to understand where you are now and where you think you can be in the future is to spend some time in self-reflection.
During this quiet time let your subconscious come to the fore and then listen to what it is telling you.
Ask yourself what you are capable of; what are your strengths and great qualities. Then write down the answers. This time spent determining your potential is valuable to who you are as a person and achieving your full potential. During this time, try to focus on the following:
What is your potential if you truly believe in yourself?
What do you want to achieve?
Do you truly believe you can achieve it?
What can you do with this potential, how is your life going to change?
Focusing on these things and answering these questions will help you to identify your potential and believe in it more strongly.
Write Down What You See As Your Full Potential
Now that you have had time to reflect on what your potential is, you can list the qualities and skills that entails. This will help you affirm what your potential is and your belief in it. Study this list and keep it with you, being sure to look at it whenever you feel yourself doubting your potential. This will help you keep your potential in the forefront of your mind and helping you to truly believe in your potential.
Stay on Course and Be Consistent
For some to truly believe in something, they need to see it. This even extends to what they believe about themselves. A great way to truly believe in your potential is to prove to yourself you have it. Act on it; challenge yourself by pushing the limits of your potential.
This challenge can be your career, a hobby, or relationship-oriented, so long as it challenges you and forces you to stepup and strive for your full potential. Once you’ve achieved the goal you set for yourself and fully showcased your potential, you’ll not only have a well-earned sense of accomplishment and confidence, but you’ll also fully believe in your potential without doubts.
Surround Yourself with People that Believe in Your Potential
You need to feed your ego. Think of your ego as another muscle and you need to stimulate it for it to grow. A strong ego will be protection against the people who don’t support you in the way you need to be supported.
“for a person to grow, they need an environment that provides them with genuineness (openness and self-disclosure), acceptance (being seen with unconditional positive regard), and empathy (being listened to and understood)”. Carl Rogers (1902-1987)
We often don’t realise how much others affect us, in particular, those close to us. They can often influence us and our emotions. If those close to you doubt your potential, you can end up doing the same. You don’t need that negative influence in your life. Instead, surround yourself with people that believe in your potential and encourage you to achieve all you can. Their positive influence will provide you with encouragement and help you to see and believe in your potential.
We all have enormous potential, but most people never truly recognize and believe in that potential. Believing in your own potential is an essential part of your confidence and success. If you believe you are capable of accomplishing something, you are far more likely to actually accomplish it.
However, believing in your own potential may not come as easily for you as it does for others. It maybe something you have to work on and prove to ourselves before we believe it, but by following our 4 steps to reach your full potential you are well on the way.
